Gifts For New Chapters?

Many of our organizations are growing (yea!), but when these groups receive their charter what gifts do they receive from alumnae and other chapters?

Obviously, their headquarters, nationals, etc extends them operating items, but other than that????

I have heard a tradition of each established chapter of the installed sorority/fraternity is to send $1 per current member to the new chapter. Is this a nationwide practice?

As an alumna, I send $10+ to each new chapter for their savings accounts. Does anyone else do this? Are there any other traditions of gift giving to new chapters?

Thanks!

Our alum chapters usually get notice of the new chapter and a list of items they can donate if they are so inclined.

One of the best things we got as a new chapter was a bunch of old stuff from Wyoming. Seriously, whatever they had laying around the house, they sent to us. Old Rush shirts (I have the GREATEST one with a survior theme on it), pens, buttons, stickers, paper, anything they used in past rushes that they had leftover. It was really great.

Another good thing was one chapter sent us a few blank bid cards. They came in very handy when we realized no one had bought bid cards for the Fall after we were installed.

UPenn "adopted" us and sent us all letters that we opened inbetween our 2 degrees of initiation. They were basically just letters of what they hoped we would get out of Tri Delta, some helpful hints, etc. It was such a great idea that we do it for all the new members now, so they all get to read letters from their sisters.

We didn't get any money, so its not a Tri Delta tradition, but that would have been sweet!!

Somewhat echoing DolphinChicaDDD...(great name, btw)

When we were in transition from going from being a colony to an installed chapter we recieved cards and letters from just about every chapter! It was amazing. We still do that for any new chapters that are installed. Its very cool to hear from sisters all over the country excited at seeing the organization grow and also excited for you to be sisters!

I believe Sigma Kappa does a money tree. I'm pretty sure it's a dollar a member and then they tie the bills on a tree and present it to the new chapter. It was a while ago that my chapter did this for a newly installed chapter, but I vaguely remember so I may be wrong.
