Manda's Rush Thread
 

Since I've officially started rush now, I figured I would start a thread for it so the other can retire ^_^.

SO:
Last night I went to Blue's first interest party and it went as follows:

The plan was to meet at a central place and be picked up at 6:30 for their Luau. By the time it was time to go about 30 girls were there, which was a little intimidating until I found out over half of them were freshmen (freshmen can't rush in the Fall here). Then the sisters came driving up with balloons on their cars and honking their horns. We drove to a park about 3 minutes away and as we drove up they were doing really loud, really cute chant. We were brought up one by one and a sister came forward, put a lei on us and led us across the room by the arm.

There everyone had to sign in and those going through rush had to fill out a grade release form. (A little long, but necessary :rolleyes: ) Then I basically talked to our greeter for about 15 minutes and a few other sisters that came around to us.
I had no idea they were only allowed to have us for 15 mintues on the first night, that was a big shocker. And a lot of the time we were talking about the sorority(philanthropy, history, traditions) so I worry I didn't have enough to get to know her. Either way, I think it was a great start and a lot more girls know me now than they did this time yesterday!

Overall: I could have been more prepared with questions :o but I got along really well with my greeter, learned A LOT and had a good time doing it, the sisters were so sweet! Its a group I could definitely see myself in. :D

Next Wednesday I have parties with Blue and Green at 6 and 7:30 PM

I have NO idea how the bid process works though :( and does someone want to explain to me what COB is?

Yay! I'm glad you had a good time! Is next week the last time you'll meet with Blue? How many times do you meet with Green? I think different sororities and different chapters probably have varying processes. Usually, you attend a few events with the sorority and they will call you or come see and offer you a bid. That's how we did it, anyway. I don't know if that helps you out any!! Sorry :)

I'll meet with Blue twice more (10th and 17th) and Green twice (10th and the 16th). After that I don't know... It seems odd that Green is only having two parties, but luckily I went to one in the Spring ^_^.

So three girls from Green dropped by my room last night with a really cute invite to their Ice Cream Social/Interest Party tonight. Unfortunately they dropped by the moment my mouth was full of some kind of food and I could barely make out a thank you before they moved on.

I laughed it off though and they seemed to think it was kinda funny, so its all good ;).

That party is from about 6-7 and Blue's party should be ffrom about 7:30-8:30.

I'm excited ^_^!

Ok, heres my report on last night.

At 6 pm I went to Green's party, they had an "Ice Cream Social" at the park, a very cute idea. Because the party was so early there weren't too many sisters there (only about half :( ) when we arrived and there were SO many freshman! (Keep in mind freshman cannot rush in the fall here). No one officially greeted us when we got there..we kinda just walked up and sat down at the picnic benches.
The whole thing was really unorganized and I only got to talk to the sisters a little bit since there were so many more PNM than sisters. And then they would sit and talk to eachother instead of us sometimes.. But let me say, the girls I did talk to I loved, just like the last time I met with this group. I really felt at ease with them. The ice cream was good too ^_^. But I'm still really sad I couldn't meet more of them and a little disappointed with the party itself.

All that took about an hour..then at 7:30:

I met Blue's sisters for their interest paty (sophomore's only but a couple of freshman accidentally came anyways, but were welcomed with open arms ^_^). THe sisters announed we'd be taken around to three different houses where sisters lived to meet everyone and have salad at the first house, dinner at the 2nd, then dessert at the third! There was so much to this party, so bear with me while I talk about it in three phases!

Phase 1: WIth every house we went to the sisters we lined up outside chanting really loud about how why we should pledge them (it was SO cute). I was so excited that I was talking A LOT to the sisters and really being myself. I felt a little weird because none of the other rushees would say much at this first house and I was trying to make sure I didn't step on anyone's toes and interrupt them.. (BTW- The Salad was good). I was talking to about four sisters at this house all of whom were really nice and eager to answer my questions.

Phase 2: We walked a coupld of blocks to the "entree house" where there was spaghetti and garlic bread. I talked to at least five sisters here about pledging and our personal lives and why they joined this org :). I should mention that at all three houses whenever someone asked if I was having a good time I replied that I was (of course!) And then I asked if they were having a good time (not mockingly) and this really caught them off guard. Then for a second it would be this moment where they really came out about how much they loved what they were doing. It was so sweet and so refreshing. They always seem really real, but you know they have to keep giving a lot of the same answers all night.

Phase 3: The "Dessert House"! First off: They said we couldn't leave unless we were completely stuffed and they made sure of it. After I finished a cookie there was a bowl of ice cream under my nose (my second bowl that evening! :eek:) I met even more sisters here and got to talk about my involvement in ASID and my role as Historian/Publicist/Webmaster. THEN, some of sisters talked about their most embarrassing moments in the sorority and mentioned that they were all normal girls who make crazy mistakes (like falling off a float in the homecoming parade!!) I love, love, love this group now.

So between these two I could be a very happy soror, I feel like I really connected with both.

Come September 25th it will be very hard to choose if I got a bid from both.

sounds like a little blue might be there for you later this month.

That would be cool :) but I really try not to overestimate how much they like me or underestimate how much they like the other rushees, that way I really won't be too disappointed if I don't get a bid from either group.

In the meantime I've got 2 parties this week! One Tuesday night and one Wednesday, more details on them once I find out. I did anticipate at least one being dressy so I took that excuse to go shopping yesterday :D.

I bought two cocktail/semi-formal dresses that I absolutely love and were 50% off to being with! The first one is black with an empire waist and a crossover v-neckline and a v-neck in the back as well. Its knee length with a ruffley kind of skirt and a few pink, maroon, and white flowers embroidered on the bottom right side. The second I got because it wasn't completely black, just in case..(But I've also been drolling over it all summer and it was finally on sale!) Its pink and black striped, strapless and has a assymetrical hem. It really sounds a lot tackier than it is and I wish I had a picture to show! (I could actually take pictures with my digital camera though.)

I'm really excited about seeing all these girls again, I don't really have any classes with them (but I do with a few Rho Delta) so its been a little while.
