ASUADPi 06-19-2003 01:57 AM

Hey all! I am an Alpha Chi Omega at the University of Arizona down in the Old Pueblo (Tucson). I'm going into my senior year...hey CatStar what school do you go to?

The_Nash 06-19-2003 05:22 AM

AZ

ASU in the house...actually im home until July 25th, then Ill be back in the heat

AZpinkkittie 06-19-2003 09:30 AM

I'm not greek (at least not yet) and I start at U of A in the fall. Go cats. The desert is my home, born and raised, but it doesn't make it any more bearable.

AZ-AlphaXi 06-19-2003 10:02 AM

Hi ... I'm an Alpha Xi Delta. I live and work in Tucson. I've been in Arizona for over 18 years now. Can't imagine living anywhere else.

greeklawgirl 06-19-2003 10:51 AM

I lived in Tucson and went to the University of Arizona for part of my undergrad and law school education. My parents and part of my extended family still live there, and I'm heading out to Tucson for vacation next week. I'm SO excited, I LOVE Arizona! :)

Bear Down!

(PS: greeklawboy and I are in the process of purchasing some income property in Tucson. We also found a piece of land for sale that looks V-E-R-Y interesting...if we like it when we see it next week, we plan on putting in an offer so we can build our dream house within the next couple of years!) :D

With greeklawgirl in town next week ... anyone up to trying for a get together?? I'm leaving for national convention on the 27th but would be able to make something before then....

BTW ... where is your interesting property located??

greeklawgirl 06-19-2003 12:40 PM

Its north of River Road, between Swan and Craycroft...a few miles south of my parents' home. Gorgerous land in a great location. Its not District 16 though, which is the one wrinkle that makes me hesitate. We would probably consider having our hypothetical future children attend private school or pay to attend District 16.

I would love to do an GC Arizona get-together! :)

Edited to add: I'll be getting into town on the 27th and will be there the entire first week of July. I don't know if that will hamper plans...I hope not!

ASUADPi 06-19-2003 12:51 PM

I second a GC get together in AZ. I love meeting other greeks and I also think it goes to show that we can and do get along with each other and that there's nothing wrong with having Greek friends outside of your house.

I too will be going out of town June 27-July 1st.

To those who went to U of A, when did y'all attend. U of A is actually where I joined ADPi, but I couldn't afford to stay down there. I had a few friends who joined sororities down there with me. Different sororities that is.

How about a get together in Tucson on either July 3rd or July 5th?
Either at the food court at the Student Union at the UofA or the food court at Tucson Mall??

nauadpi 06-19-2003 03:38 PM

Another Arizona GCer...I am an adpi up at NAU if you couldnt tell from my user name...

shopgirl 06-19-2003 07:35 PM

Hi everyone!:)

I lived in Tucson for four and a half years.
I graduated from The University of Arizona.
Unfortunately, I no longer live in Arizona.
Otherwise, I would love to meet all of you.
Have fun!

Bear Down!

AXWhoah 06-19-2003 11:17 PM

ASUADPi....when were you at UA? My RC partner Liz is an ADPi and now the president. She's the greatest! Maybe you know her? And I joined in Fall 2000 and I know a TON of people in other sororities...Maybe we know some of the same people!:)

ASUADPi 06-19-2003 11:27 PM

I actually was intitated in the spring of 1998. My roomate, before she moved into the house, in coronado was a DG. One of my neighbors was a Tri Delt. My suitemate, before she moved down the hall, was a Sigma Kappa.
One of my friends from high school is a chi-o, another an achi-o, another an alpha phi.
At ASU, I know girls who are AGD's, Gamma Phi's, Sigma Kappas, Thetas and Chi-o's.

AXWhoa, actually I am not going to school at the moment. I am thinking about going to grad school in either ASU or NAU. I had just moved to AZ from New York almost three months ago.

I used to live in New York City.
I like it so far, but it is too hot (they tell me that the first year is the worst and you get used to it)! Where is the relief?!
I live in the West Valley area!

When I first moved to Tucson I didn't really like it. And even when I went back to visit in May I thought it looked dirty. However, once you're there for a little while it grows on you. You'll get to know all the places to go, i.e. salons, grocery stores, little restraunts, etc. and then it begins to feel like home. It has a small town feel, but it's not a small town. It's more like several small towns that came together to form one big town.:p

The school offers a lot; museums, Broadway plays, sports, etc.
Then there's hiking; Tucson has great hiking trails.

I'm beginning to get a little sad writing about it. :(
(I live in Tampa now)

How are you liking it so far?
Where are you living? (I don't mean specifically;) )

scbaby 07-03-2003 07:24 PM

HEY EVERYBODY! I'M NOT IN ARIZONA YET, BUT I'M GOING TO ARIZONA STATE NEXT FALL AND CAN'T WAIT TO JOIN GREEK LIFE!

AXWhoah 07-03-2003 07:36 PM

I think Tucson is a great town. The foothills are really nice and have some really nice looking homes along with some top notch resorts. Watch out for the Tucson drivers though, they're frightening. There are a ton of good restaurants around the University along with some fun bars if that's your scene. Let be the first to welcome you to Tucson! If you ever need anything feel free to PM me!

susiesigma20 07-03-2003 07:52 PM

so far tucson is alright. it's just such a huge change from where i grew up and went to school. everything is just so spread out i can't stand it! i guess i just got used to the east coast with everything in walking distance :)

Need some advice

Okay, I heard that this time the Phoenix area (I am not sure about the rest of the state, please tell me if the entire state does) has its monsoon season. Has anyone in Arizona experienced this? If so, how do you cope with the phenonemon? Does it get any easier over the years? How do you prepare for them? I need to know since it is my first time dealing with monsoons.

http://www.freeadpower.org/~mrsmiles...yareontome.gif http://mysmilies.creativesell.net/otn/confused/fie.gif

nauadpi 07-09-2003 04:51 PM

Flagstaff also does see some of the monsoon season, but we dont get it as much up here. As for preparing for it, up here we really dont do much at all.

rainbowbrightCS 07-09-2003 04:56 PM

well since I lived in AZ for 19 years, I will post on teh monson thing. We never prepared, since it usally rained at night. The most we have to do it get the dirt off of our cars in the morning. Make sure you wind shield wipers work (the dust storms are amazing) and have a/c in you car.

Well that about it.

Oh and get lost of hairspray and gel.

greeklawgirl 07-09-2003 05:13 PM

Also, because the nature of monsoons is that they come and go very quickly...DO NOT ever walk into, or drive your car into, a wash or a street where "Flash Flood" signs are posted. Moonsoons can cause floods in the blink of an eye, and inevitably every year the Fire Department has to pull a flooded car out, or someone gets trapped in their car.

Of course, don't be swimming or standing under trees during a monsoon. You don't want to be struck by lightning.

In general, though, if you use your common sense, you will be fine. :)

(My wedding ceremony took place during a monsoon storm. Luckily we were indoors!)

shopgirl 07-10-2003 02:08 PM

I loved monsoon season!

And do I have a funny story about
getting stuck in some water!

Maybe I'll post it later...

AZpinkkittie 07-10-2003 03:11 PM

Monsoons can get crazy in AZ because when the street and such were built, people didn't realize it does rain here, so the drainage system is non-existent and almost every street flodds. Also, because of the "stupid motorist" law, if emergency people have to pull you & your car out of a wash that floods, you'll be required to pay for the rescue  . Harsh I know, but people should read the signs. Monsoons can be really nice, and the electrical storms we have are amazing  . Just be careful. I have lived in Tucson my whole life, and although it's nice and comfortable (with all my friends here and all) I do want to move. I don't think there's enough to do here, so I'd like to move to a bigger city, but not Phoenix cause it's even hotter there and there still isn't a beach. People moving to Tucson though, have to be careful. It's kind of like a black hole. Once you're here, it's very dificult to leave, and if you do make it out, a lot of people tend to come back. Not that it's all bad though. There are some very nice parts about it, it just gets old after 22 years.:p

absolutuscchick 07-10-2003 03:45 PM

As long as u know how to drive in the rain u will be fine (although many arizonians DONT know how to!!!) Also, be sure to look out for fallen trees and stuff, since alot of things fall down during monsoon season!

CatStarESP4 07-12-2003 08:39 PM

Thanks for the advice! I shall do my best to cope with the monsoons. I'll be careful too!

Hi Girls! I've lived in Tucson my whole life-19 years- and will be starting my second year at the U of A in the fall. For those of you who know Tucson pretty well, I went to Catalina Foothills high school. Those four years weren't exactly the greatest-that school is very hard to fit into! Anyways, I'm rushing in August and am very excited, but also getting nervous!

Sam

amycat412 07-24-2003 05:45 PM

Catalina!
Small world. My ex boyfriend and another close friend went to Catalina. But that was in the 80s, so...much older than you. :)

greeklawgirl 07-24-2003 05:56 PM

Amycat, you're thinking of another school. :) Tucson has a Catalina High School and a Catalina Foothills High School. Confusing, I know, lol. Catalina Foothills has only been around for about 7 years.

I lived in that neighborhood while attending high school and I had to be bused to the neighboring school district because the high school hadn't been built yet. Aaaargh. What a pain in the butt!

AZpinkkittie 07-25-2003 09:26 AM

Sam I know several people that went to Catalina Foothills and graduated in 1999. Did you know any upperclassmen while you were there??

UASoph02 07-25-2003 01:15 PM

Yeah, I knew a few people that graduated in 1999. Who did you know?
Sam

Andee4321 07-25-2003 01:28 PM

Yeah! I'm here in Tempe AZ too!!! However I feel as if the monsoons this year aren't as bad as last year. Last year they were horrible. But yeah ASU!!!

CatStarESP4 07-25-2003 10:40 PM

Another question to my fellow Arizonians (or Arizonans) that I have been wanting to ask! What is up with the rivalry between Arizona and ASU? Just wondering! No badmouthing the other school!
